Description

Formamide is an amide derived from formic acid, and the molecular formula is HCONH2. It is a colorless liquid, miscible with water, and has a similar odor to ammonia. Mainly used in the production of sulfa drugs, synthetic vitamins and used as paper and fiber softener. Pure formamide dissolves many insoluble ionic compounds and is therefore used as a solvent.
